Cool London Cool Guides English German French and Spanish Edition Clare Rigden Susanne Olbrich Christine Takengny 9783832794880 Books Reviews

  • This tiny, pocket-sized guide to London will suit the needs of time-pressed travelers who are keen to experience the best that contemporary London has to offer in terms of the most happening or coolest spots (hotels, restaurants & cafes, shops, clubs, lounges, bars, etc). Each place featured lists useful information such as the address, phone number, URL, and also directions on how to get there via the London tube. In addition, there is a categorization in terms of how costly a place is, ranging from $ to $$$$.

There are lots of full-color photographs that makes this guide a delight to peruse. The guide also comes with a small map listing the locations of all the places featured, though I would have preferred a fold-out map that is larger and easier on the eyes. The guide is written in four languages, i.e. English, French, Spanish, and German, all of which are found in the same book. There is also a brief Cool City Info section at the end of the guide listing the usual tourist-related information such as accommodation, transportation, etc.
  • This multilingual guide (English, French, Spanish, German) doesn't replace the usual kind of travel suggestions, it adds to them. You might expect to find hotel, restaurant, and club suggestions, and you do - but these suggestions emphasize atmosphere and variety over tradition. The "Highlights" section spans the range from the Royal Botanic Gardens to the London Eye - that huge ferris wheel that became an instant landmark. Likewise, shopping suggestions range from standards like Harrod's to a funky little place that makes ice cream using liquid nitrogen.

This won't stand by itself if you're planning travel arrangements in the usual way. But, if you have a few hours on your hand or just want to come back talking about something different give this a shot. Its small format makes it easy to carry, too.

  • "Cool London" will provoke in you a lust for living lavishly while exploring London. This book has text in four languages English, German, French and Spanish. There are full-color pictures on half the pages and detailed descriptions of tantalizing adventures. This book tells you where famous people have stayed, which hotels have heated pools and where to find romantic roof gardens. The chic restaurants also look lovely. When I was in London all I remember is fish and chips. I suppose traveling there as a child had some disadvantages as my parents were on a budget. Since then London has changed so much and is much more multicultural. You can dine out and enjoy cuisine from India, Japan or even Spain. After reading this book I want to go back to London. There are so many cozy little shops to explore. All I need is a million dollars, really. I'd explore London for months.
